- A Machine Operator operates assigned machinery, monitors and optimizes efficiency, performs basic maintenance on machines, and conducts quality checks.
- Performs all assigned machine shop operations.
- Sets up and operates machines.
- Observes machine operations, detects workpiece defects, and makes adjustments to machinery when necessary to improve performance.
- Operates machinery and equipment according to work instructions.
- Troubleshoots issues and performs routine and minor maintenance; submits work orders for maintenance requirements.
- Reads blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions.
- Follows reporting and recordkeeping procedures and reports problems to the supervisor.
- Cleans machinery and maintains cleanliness in the work area.
- Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to management.
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures.
- Assists in other work areas as needed and directed by the department supervisor.
Advanced duties and responsibilities
- Operate multiple machines simultaneously.
- Train others on proper setup and operation of machines in a safe and efficient manner.
- Forklift certified.
Qualifications and Experience
- Prior work experience relevant to the position.
- Basic mathematical skills and proficiency in reading a tape measure.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Mechanical and technical aptitude and capacity.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions
- Strength: Ability to lift up to 35 lbs repeatedly.
- Motion: Will stand for the majority of the shift, kneel, squat, and climb steps multiple times throughout the day.
- Vision/Hearing Requirements: Must be able to see and hear parts as they are machined, detect deficiencies, and machinery malfunctions. Effective communication skills both verbally and nonverbally are required.
- Work Environment: Mostly indoors in non-temperature-controlled environments. Exposure to oils, lubricants, and other substances used in machining.
- Emotional Demands: Vigilance is required to ensure safety for everyone in the area. Decisions on proper machine operation are necessary.
- Safety: This is a safety-sensitive position requiring adherence to all safety procedures, policies, and PPE requirements, including hand, head, eye, ear, and foot protection.
