Position Summary
Under the direction of the Patient Access Registration Front Line leadership team, the Patient Access Registrar is accountable to ensure a smooth and timely registration and admission process.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Accurately and efficiently perform registration and financial functions via Electronic Medical Record (EMR), including thorough interviewing techniques, registering patients in appropriate status, and following registration guidelines.
- Ensure the accurate and timely documentation of demographic and financial data; obtain and scan the appropriate forms into the medical record as per department protocol.
- Greet customers promptly with a warm and friendly reception.
- Collect, document, and scan all required demographic and financial information.
- Direct patients to the appropriate setting, explaining procedures and apologizing for any delays.
- Maintain professionalism and diplomacy, following department standards.
- Estimate and collect copays, deductibles, and other patient financial obligations.
- Manage responsibilities within Compliance guidelines as outlined in the Hospital and Department Compliance Plans and in accordance with Meaningful Use requirements.
- Apply recurring visit processing according to protocol.
- Facilitate the use of electronic registration tools such as Wacom tablets or iPads where available.
- Perform duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent, and 1-year experience in a customer service role or healthcare industry.
- Preferred: Working knowledge of Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, Cerner, EPIC or other EMR systems, Electronic Eligibility System, and third-party payer verification websites. Medical terminology knowledge is also preferred.
