As a Texas Backyard Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating the Texas Backyard department. You will get to know our Customers and ensure they receive excellent service. Additionally, you will supervise a team of Partners.

• School of Retail Management (SORM) training
• Leadership and management skills

What does the work entail?

Management:

• Uses independent judgment to make employment-related and business decisions, including strategies for products and departments, hiring, promoting, disciplining, suspending, discharging, rewarding, or resolving Partner-related matters
• Trains trainees from the School of Retail Management (SORM) and School of Retail Leadership (SORL)
• Assists department Partners with their duties; coaches, trains, and evaluates as needed
• Holds Partners accountable for following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Prepares work schedules, orders products, controls inventory, and monitors department budget and payroll

Merchandising / Sales:

• Executes merchandising programs and drives sales by ensuring appropriate variety and quantity of products daily
• Ensures and is accountable for the department's financial performance
• Monitors financial records and inventory levels to assist the buying team in planning inventories that maximize sales and profit while meeting budget goals
• Researches and analyzes potential or existing process breakdowns; collaborates with Partners to identify and resolve root causes
• Uses H-E-B systems to identify opportunities to drive sales
• Maintains high levels of customer service through personal example, SOP compliance, and accountability

Food Safety / Sanitation:

• Ensures compliance with federal, state, and H-E-B regulations, policies, and standards related to product and food safety and sanitation

What is your background?

• Minimum age of 18 years (mandatory)
• At least 2+ years of experience in the department and training, or comparable experience
• Experience in a retail nursery or with perishable goods (preferred)
• School of Retail Management (SORM) training
• Bachelor's degree in horticulture, botany, plant sciences, or a related field (a plus)
• Completion of Texas Nursery Landscape Association (TNLA) training (upon hire; available through H-E-B)
• MHE certification
