AFW proudly participates in preserving the environment by recycling as much material as possible. AFW is looking for a Recycling Associate who is responsible for processing material to be recycled.
The Recycling Associate will operate and clean the following equipment:
- The Runi/Strautmann (Styrofoam Recycling Machine)
- The Cardboard Bailer
- The Plastic/Foam Bailer
- The Trash Shredder
The role also involves staging the processed material onto pallets and safely preparing the pallets for shipment. All necessary training will be provided by AFW.

Compensation: $17/hour PLUS Weekend, Afternoon, and Night Shift Premiums!
Job Requirements:
- Ability to be trained on the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Prior experience operating warehouse equipment, such as forklift, pallet jack, and cherry picker, is helpful but not required.
- Ability to be trained on Lock Out Tag Out (L.O.T.O.) procedures and perform them safely.
- Ability to work at heights of 0 to 35 feet above the ground.
- Ability to become certified in the operation of warehouse equipment.
- Have a flexible schedule and be willing to work all shifts, including holidays and weekends.
Job Expectations:
- Commitment to AFW’s safety policies and procedures, and the ability to promote safety awareness.
- Process plastic, foam, cardboard, and styrofoam for recycling.
- Inspect materials to ensure they are free of tape, packaging boards, and debris prior to processing.
- Ensure all bails are safely bailed and ready for transport.
- Move bails onto pallets and transport them for shipping using a forklift or pallet jack.
- Process all non-recyclable material.
- Clean and maintain equipment and the work area.
- Periodically empty trash cans throughout the facility.
- Maintain the bail storage area.
- Operate snow removal equipment during winter (for Colorado Stores) to keep walkways and entrances clear and safe.
- Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on recycling equipment.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to keep the grounds and building clean and well-maintained according to AFW standards.
- Report equipment issues and potential liabilities, along with recommendations, to AFW management.
- Work efficiently without direct supervision.
- Maintain a neat and safe work environment.
- All training will be provided by AFW.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to maneuver in confined and congested areas.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and bend for 8 hours or more daily.
- Constant use of arms, hands, fingers, eyes, legs, and back.
- Ability to lift, lower, push, and pull equipment, trees, shrubs, etc., up to 100 lbs. frequently.
- The position requires lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, and moving equipment for 8 hours or more daily.
Physical Work Environment:
- Fluorescent lighting.
- Concrete flooring.
- Climate influenced by outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
- Considerable exterior noise.
- Extreme temperature fluctuations in the warehouse.
